The Alexis de Tocqueville Society

“We give because we have been blessed, and the only reasonable response of gratitude is to share. We believe that one can make a difference in our community if we commit our time to care.”
--Tom and Susan Fazio

United Way of America initiated The Alexis de Tocqueville Society in 1984 to involve and deepen the understanding, commitment and support of high wealth individuals to United Way's mission and work. Membership in the Society is granted to individuals who contribute at least $10,000 annually to United Way.

Alexis de Tocqueville was a French aristocrat who applauded the unique spirit of volunteerism in American society. His observations formed the 1835 work, “Democracy in America,” a detailed study of American society, culture and politics. Perhaps his most important observation was that Americans helped one another in times of need. He recognized, applauded and immortalized the volunteer spirit that lives in the hearts of Americans.

United Way of Henderson County is proud to recognize the generosity of the 2015 members of the Tocqueville Society:
